To me, this book had some good, some bad.

The characters are quirky and interesting, but several significant characters never got quite beyond being cartoonish for me. Perhaps the intention of the author was to have this have the feel of a comic book? It didn't really work for me.

I found the narration grating. To me, it was oddly written in the present tense. I kinda got used to it by the end, but it never flowed for me. I would suggest doing the "look inside" or free sample thing to try this book out before buying it.

The plot and setting development were interesting and fun. However, I found they were also pretty inconsistent. It almost felt like a rough draft, but there are hardly any typos, so the author made sure the details were taken care of but somehow, the big picture remained inconsistent.

At first, I was really surprised this book is going to be made into a movie. However, on further reflection, it does read somewhat like a screenplay, and maybe, with a little editing, it could be a decent movie.

It's not the story line but the writing style that makes this book. Don't get me wrong. The story is fine A little humor, A little serious. A little twist and suspense. Somewhat predictable but what book isn't?

This is the second book I've read by this author. The first was free. I paid for this one. And again, I thought it was a good read. What I like the best is the writing style. It isn't redundant. Easy to follow and you don't find that often.

if you appreciate good writing, you'll enjoy the book even if super heroes aren't your first choice.
The book has great potential, but there were grammatical errors, misspelled words that spell check fixed, but it's the wrong word. And those are the small problems. The story line is just not filled out enough....there are gaps in character behavior, the science fiction doesn't work or isn't explained well. For example, when they go to rescue Penn, or whatever his name was, Cole is all full of rage, pumped up beyond thought. He beats the crap out of this massive guy, then some dinky dude shows up with a gun and some power of his own and Cole is suddenly running to someone that got hurt instead of protecting that someone by beating the crap out of the guy......whatever was ment to be portrayed here I didn't get it and didn't even bother to finish the book. Huge disappointment.
I REALLY enjoyed reading Book 1 of Vs. Reality. I've been reading Science Fiction and similar genres for 60 years and this book checked ALL of the boxes that I need to have checked for a story to be thoroughly entertaining. Once I began reading, it was difficult for me to stop reading long enough to eat and sleep. In fact, I slept very little until I had finished Book 1. As soon as I have the funds (I'm retired/disabled and on a limited fixed income), I WILL be purchasing Book 2 and I have no doubt that Book 3 will follow soon thereafter.

On a final note, I want to thank you for writing a fantastic story that immediately captured my imagination with interesting characters and a plot that was anything BUT predictable. WELL DONE!
This book feels really familiar – it draws elements from many of the movies making up our current super-hero craze. In this particular story, a small group of characters get superpowers when they receive a chemical trigger. The superpowers, when they flare, change their physical appearance, making them more conventionally attractive. Together they have to fight the ringleader of a nefarious plot, a plot that is deeply imbedded in the world government, etc. It’s familiar stuff, you know?

The story felt a bit simplistic – scenes wrapped up tidily and there was little sense of the multi-layering that characterizes a truly successful plot. Bad guys are bad, characters that seem like they will have conflicts have conflicts, key characters have their breakthroughs at the perfect times.

In many ways, this felt like an early draft of a novel. If I was beta-reading this, I would have the sense that the novel may be quite interesting. But since the author just stopped here, there’s a sense of stunted potential. The characters, the plot, the worldbuilding . . . these could have been quite interesting, but they aren’t yet fully developed.
Whew, rare is it I read a book and say out loud "Wow, glad *that* is over with."

Yes there were some good ideas, but I agree with another reviewer, maybe as a rough draft? This felt like it *wanted* to go some where but...Just didn't feel it. Some of the descriptions of scenes felt like verbal up-chuck, just over kill. There is references to the main character having been a fighter and how he kept 'struggling through' after a fight...I felt that was important but...it was never used (or explained) is that a plot point for other books (that I will never read)? Is this something to do with his powers? (Speaking of, he gets 'permanent effects' of his 'powers' (the tattoos), no one else does.

The main character best friend starts off as an interesting character, nice banter.....then he turns into a 1 dimensional cut-out. "help me"...zzzzz....

The last page relationship twist (there are 2) I am talking about one specifically...<<<yawn>>> I didn't even blink it was so expected.

The Big Bad Villain? powers? explanation? cared? His 'assistants' felt characaturish(sp) at best, the loud floral shirt? been there/done that.

That chapter detail/headers just cluttered me- for me, they didn't make a lot of sense and only furthered annoyed the story. The reviews I read were so good (award winner (or was that nominated?!!?!?!) etc...etc... I kept hoping this would get better....it didn't (I was surprised (and happy) when it ended!
