Does your kid like The Spiderwick movie? If your kid is into the mystical and likes the scary creatures introduced in the movie, they may love this book. Each page in the book explains the mystical creatures, shows a picture and tells a backstory about the habits of the creature. It is a regular book that looks like a leather strap and wax are binding it closed but in reality that is just a picture printed on the book. My 7 yr old son loves the magic of the movie and wanted his own field guide so he got a real leather strap, made a note identical to what is pictured on the book and crafted it into a more realistic version of the book. I recommend this book to fans of the movie or anyone who just likes fairies, trolls, goblins and other magical creatures. Some of the pictures are scary and many of the types of creatures are new to me. I like that they have a scary version of elves and mermaids that seem more natural rather than fantasy. This book offers many hours of enjoyment for all of my kids and after many months in my house it is still be used to learn from, draw from and imagine new stories from.

If you love fantasy creatures, you will love this book! It's great to read and explore the world of Spiderwick and take in the amazing artwork. I use it for sketching inspiration and love it. It's beautifully put together in a nice hardback cover.
Gave this to my daughter for Christmas. The illustrations and artwork are gorgeous. My daughter has great memories of the students at her elementary school battle over who could check it out from the library next. She was thrilled to have her own copy now, even as a high school student.
My daughter who is 10, loves the spiderwick series and she is getting this as part of her birthday present. She is going to be so surprised!! I had a good look at it, it has great presentation, beautiful pictures and the spiderwick series keeps her entertained. I know she will love this!!
This book looked interesting, and, being a fan of the Spiderwick Chronicles, I wanted to read it, also. At first, I thought it was a bit pricy, but then I saw why. The book was loaded with facts, detailed pictures, and, well, I was just amazed. It tells about the history of Dragons, how to tell a boggart is in your house, and way more! This isn't a real book, but more like what it said it was- a guide to the Spiderwick Chronicles series. I want to say- Great job, Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black.
Bought for my 9 yr old who is reading the Spiderwick Chronicles. She loves being able to look up the creatures that are mentioned in the books. She takes notes and takes her 4 yr old sister on "hunts" for the creatures. This book is a bit large so not something she can toss in her bag or purse to take with her when we go places but she keeps it near her other books at home. If you have a Spiderwick Chronicles Fan, this is definitely a must have!

If your child is a spiderwick's fan, this would be a fantastic present for him or her. I bought this book for my sake ( I love fairies gnomes and other magical creatures..) as well as for my daughter's and we are both delighted with it.
My 2 kids have loved the movie Spiderwick Chronicles for years. Every now and then they watch it back to back and try to plan their own way of achieving the "sight" and their imaginations run wild. They are 11 and 9 and its harder and harder to get them engaged in something they both will enjoy. This book has them both SO excited! They haven't put it down other than sleep since yesterday! Great illustrations and wording. Much of the book contains what looks like hand written letters and notes written in cursive and can be tricky for an early reader but I like it more for that reason. It's challenging and engaging. Fold out pages and illustrations. This book will entertain ages young and old!
