The book had all the makings of a first rate novel if you could get pass the awkward sentence structure, misspelled words and a new editor. Most of the mistakes could have been easily fixed with good editing.
However the storyline could have been immensely more interesting with a little more thought. The heroine and the chemistry she shared with the hero of the story was believable and I looked forward to a fitting ending to their affair. I didn't get one.
The ending seemed rushed and it spoiled the best part of what was an interesting and thought-provoking storyline. There was no satisfactory conclusion to the love story between the main characters or any of the characters for that matter. It just ended and it seemed like a cop out, as if the author just wanted to finish the book as quickly as possible with no regard to the readers or to her characters. It left me feeling cheated, not knowing what happened to the characters that I became emotionally involved with and left me hanging at the end wanting more... but not in a good way.
I'm glad it was free the day I got it from Amazon. It would have been even more disappointing if I had paid for it. The only reason I gave It a 2 instead of a 1 was because of the characters and how much I rooted for them throughout the story. I do believe that with a little more thought, a better editor and an ending more in tune with the strength and unwillingness to give up she imbued her characters with,no matter the odds, this would be a first rate book. It is this strength and her excellent job at creating characters that we can love and hate that makes the ending so disappointing. They deserved better.

Deviations Crystal C Johnson 9781494941833 Books Reviews

This book got better with every chapter and by the end it blew me away. I would never imagine the twists in the story. Henly is our main girl that we follow around while she searches for her sister Davis. I can’t really say anything more without giving the plot away. It was an amazing read. I can’t wait for the sequel.
I very much enjoyed this book, although it did remind me of a mix between Divergent and Alice in Deadland (not sure how many readers have actually read that series). There were definitely some signs pointing to a lack of thorough editing, but I was able to get past that. Unfortunately, despite the fact that this book was written in 2014, I was unable to find any type of sequel. Which makes me wonder whether or not there will be one. If this book is meant to be stand alone, then I am sorely disappointed with the ending. I have had no closure, and the ending raised more questions than will ever be answered.
Exciting story that makes you want to go on, not to mention throw the bad guys to the Deviations to eat... but, then again, who are the bad guys? The role goes in and out... guess we’ll have to see.
This book has the potential to be 5 stars. Most of the dialog was well written and the plot was intriguing. The problems I experienced was with the transitions. For instance, after someone ( don't want to give away a spoiler) from the hospital. They're on the rooftop trying to rescue her and than they're on the helicopter heading to Alaska and than Henley is waking up from surgery. No transitions.

Another problem was all the grammatical errors. The axe was in Reiner's dad's chest but being pulled out of his neck, totally confusing.

I also didn't or feel the love connection between Henley and Renner until after the picnic. The beginning of the relationship felt forced.

I'm glad that I forced myself to keep reading it. It had scenes that were exciting to read. I think if the author could have it edited it would be a fantastic and very enjoyable book.
So 75% into the book and I was impressed..."good editing, 3 errors, not bad!"
*load sound effects for tires skidding* as my kindle is showing 80% read. Yeah, apparently the editor quit.

The sentences stopped making sense, words were not spelled correctly or the author was now using a different language, and the story was making drastic shifts. Maybe the editor just went mad.

Overall, my review is a simple warning to people like me, the book has a bad ending, unless it was left to make a sequel... authors seemed to forget to notify us sometimes *insert any image of a human being shaking their head, and then putting their face in their hands, and making a slow dramatic walk away*

Okay I am back, Editing is key, and I am told it was fixed. I will further review the new addition once I read it.
